How The Pride of Central came to be - and how you can finish your first novel.

A Shared Triumph

The time is here.

On Wednesday, The Pride of Central will be released to the public.

From the outside, it may appear that this is a day of success for me. But that is not quite the case.

It is a day of success. For most of my journey through producing The Pride of Central, I did not truly expect to ever see the day that it would be published. Sometimes it was my own doubts, sometimes it was the size of the task, but often I did not feel that this would ever happen.

It has happened. However, that is not “my” success.

It is “our” success. My name gets to be on the cover of the book, but that does not mean this story was done alone, or that the success belongs to me.

The Pride of Central exists today because God gifted me with the time needed to write and edit, and because my family and friends encouraged me and helped me through the years to get this finished. Often, they believed in me when I did not.

The players on the Central baseball team in my book could not win any games or championships individually. One player may stand out as the star, but no star can win the game without help from his teammates.

I could not have finished this book individually. Actually, I doubt that I could have even started it individually. Now that we are here at the publication of The Pride of Central, I consider this to be a shared triumph.

For those of you who have been following my blog and are close to getting that first (or second, third, etc.) novel published, I hope you take the time to remember and thank all the people who helped you through each of the valleys you had to get through.

Next week: Wow, I'm a published author! (So now what?)
